Jazz Music Elements

Jazz Music
Jazz music composition is the work of knowledgeable musicians with the skills to write, and create one of the most memorable masterpieces. Moreover, Jazz music Composition is a course included in colleges and universities who deem it a worthy subject to study. Composing Jazz music requires the theory of constructing chords that are altered or substitute that would fit within the guidelines of composition.
Meaning, experimentation is fine as long as you know how to fit in the musical shocks in the piece in a manner to not disrupt the flow. It is mandatory to keep the essence of Jazz music a part of you when creating, and keep all thoughts to restrict creativity out of your mind. The aim of Jazz music composition is to create what you feel about any subject into the sound of your musical work. To find your way into the making of Jazz music composition you should learn the skills of basic theory in ear training, notes on various instruments, key signatures, scales, chords, intervals, counterpoint, harmony, melody, music terminology, clefs, meters and time signatures, transposing of various instruments, and music reading.
Listening to Jazz music from various artists will give you a feel for the type of composition you would like to create. You can begin with music arranging which is recreating an old song with new ideas. For instance, it has been done many times by professional musicians to use a public domain song, or ask permission to use a certain song. One example is Chaka Khan's " The End Of A Love Affair" written for Billie Holiday by Edward C. Redding in an arrangement that fit Chaka Khan.
There are many versions of Jazz standards such as "They Can't Take That Away From Me" , "Misty", and "Stormy Weather" by different people who wanted to either keep the basic structure or interpret the song in their own special way. The basic rules to composing a Jazz Composition is to make a theme and arrange the music around it.
Meaning, as in basic songwriting structure you will need a beginning, middle, bridge, and ending. The order is always up to the person(s )creating the music. You can begin with the themes most common in notated Jazz and Blues sheet music or fake book forms. In addition, use the basic theory structure you find on sheet music as a format, but use your own ideas. In arranging, you can examine the basic format, and embellish on areas you think needs it. The direction one can go in music arrangement is infinite according to the history of how each style of jazz music was created.
When creating Jazz music composition one must remember the essential element present in all true Jazz music which is improvisation. Jazz Improvisation is not notated in any shape, way, or form. In fact, the improvisation in Jazz composition is invented by pure emotion of the musician moved by the accompaniment. Improvisation in Jazz composition can be in the beginning, the bridge and also at the end of the piece. Most commonly there is embellishment in the middle of the piece, but it all depends on the mood of the creator of the music.
Once you learn the theory behind Jazz music composition, you can learn the shortcuts on creating. For example, lead sheets usually have the Jazz chord symbol above the melody below it as a basic structure to follow. When all is said and done, you will have created your own masterpiece as a gift to the world from your heart.

Should My Kid Take Guitar or Piano Lessons?
As a parent, you would like to give your child as much as you could afford. These things include good health, proper education, healthy environment, and everything else that could contribute to his wellbeing. Along with the material needs you provide for your child, giving opportunities to explore creativity should not be optional. It is a rare joy for the parent who can watch their child become more accomplished at playing the guitar or learning any new artistic skill?
Music lessons are a beneficial addition to anyone's life, and are especially great for developing a child's creativity. Most guitar lessons for beginners courses are suitable for children to learn to play the guitar. Learning to create art or play an instrument boosts a child’s coordination skills, increases mathematical ability, enhances thinking and concentration, develops talents and skills, and a endues a person with a healthy sense of self-confidence and self-esteem. Music lessons have so many positive outcomes and advantages (no matter the effort or cost).
In selecting a musical instrument for your child, one must take into consideration these circumstances: cost, size, convenience, and availability. Size does matter - a smaller child (with small hands) may have difficulty learning to play the piano, but here are child sized guitars to help them. Check out the prices of pianos and having them shipped before promising piano lessons to your child! But if you feel you can’t invest what is needed with other types of lessons such as piano lessons due to the aforementioned factors, the best choice for your child would be a guitar lessons course.
Why should you or should you not let your child choose to learn the guitar? Budget-wise, guitars are not as expensive as other musical instruments, such as violin saxophone or piano. This way, you could provide your child with unforgettable knowledge and experiences that he will surely love even as he grows up. It's easy to tune a guitar yourself, but pianos require a professional piano tuner - also guitars are easy to carry and don't take up a lot of space in your home.
Guitars make a good choice because they can be taken almost anywhere. Guitars are great to share music with others, which kids love to do once they have learned to play songs. Guitar practice and sharing a song can take place at school, on the playground, at a backyard barbecue or outside while enjoying an inspirational view of nature. With a paino, the space it takes up and it's inability to be used in more than one place can be a problem.
Moreover, if you can’t keep up with the professional fees of a music teacher, there are great guitar video courses to watch onlne. There are also several good guitar lesson DVDs for your child to learn from. Kids tend to like watching videos to learn and they can learn new things quickly. The guitar videos make it really easy to learn as you watch the teacher. Another way that parents can make sure their child gets the most out of learning to play the guitar is to purchase a teacher’s version of a training course which has a lesson plan so the parent will be able know whether their child is learning what they should be. There are a few homeschool guitar lessons (for a teacher or parent to use with or without guitar experience or knowledge) with workbooks for both the student and teacher to keep a kid on track with their lessons.
Children have more guitar playing idols these days than those who play piano - so they may be easily inpspired to learn guitar. Kids who learn one musical instrument can easily learn a second one and add to their musical knowledge - many start with guitar and later learn to play the piano.
Kids who have multiple areas of interest that they can develop make for wholer, happier adults. This is the best that parents can wish for their children. So give your child the gift of music with kids’ guitar lessons. Many kids start off with music lessons for fun and they find they are talented enough to later make it their career - help your kid find out if they have any musical talent.

How To Learn Spanish Easily
So You Need Help Learning Spanish
Believe it or not, you can learn a new language quickly and easily. Nothing is more natural; it can actually be quite a bit of fun to master a new language! A whole new world is opened when you learn a new language. Consider how much more comfortable you'll feel if you do any traveling. It's also very likely that you'll be able to communicate more easily with many residents of the city or town where you live. In today's economy, knowing another language can make it easier to get a job. Spanish is definitely emerging as America's second language. In certain areas, more people speak Spanish than English. Knowing how to speak and translate Spanish into other languages is a valuable skill to have.
One theory about learning languages is the the best solution is immersion in the new language. For anyone wanting to learn Spanish, going to a country where that was the main language would be a way to gain fluency. If you live in a big city this might be an area of your own city. Of course, when you visit another country you don't have the convenient option of using your native language if you feel like it. Many people swear by the immersion method--they say it forced them to learn faster. Other people find it intimidating. It's not for everybody, and you have to ask yourself if you think it would be the best thing for you.
As you listen to Spanish, pay close attention to what is being spoken. This will improve your 'hearing' for it. A lot of languages tend to be more 'oral' than written. If the language is 'alive,' then it will be important to learn how to listen to it. Memorizing the alphabet, or writing a proper sentence, only takes you so far. You need to be able to understand the language when you hear it. The best results will come from listening to the language whenever possible. When you're able to positively identify the language after hearing a few words spoken, then that's a sure sign you're well on your way to learning it.
Just throw yourself into the language. Are you in close proximity to a location where most of the people speak in Spanish? An excellent way to learn is by listening to a fluent conversation between two people. People are usually more than willing to help others learn their language and communicate. You won't have to travel far, and you can get the same experience and practice with your second language.
There are a lot of different techniques you can employ if you need help learning Spanish. There are many sources of assistance; look online or in your local community. One reason there are so many methods is that people have different learning styles. The best way to find the method that works best is to try a variety of them. Be patient with yourself and use the tools that work best for you; sooner than you think, you'll find that you can speak, read and understand Spanish.

Music Theory Workbooks Piano
Do I really need a Piano Theory book?
What is a theory book anyway? I know it's like a workbook that involves writing and helps you read music.
and what about technic / technique book? Is that important too?
Learning music theory (how to read music and understand the inner workings of it) is extremely beneficial to anyone learning an instrument. So, in my opinion, yes, you need a piano theory book in order to truly learn to play.
A theory book will generally have exercises to help you learn time signatures, key signatures, the notes on the staff, scales, and chord types. It'll also have other basic things such as what dynamic symbols mean, as well as other things.

What Piano Songs Should You Play?
Everyone who plays piano loves to play freehand and make up their own music while touching the keys. Although you'll like playing your own music, the usual inclination to play other composers' music will ultimately hit you and you'll need to get hold of a variety of Music Books. You can get hold of music in music stores or online with no trouble, only it may not be the music you wish to have a go and perform.
Obtain compositions that compliment your musical strengths. The right method to manage this is to merely look at the music. When you go to a shop, you'll be able to look at the music you want to purchase in-depth before buying.
You'll wish to examine how many sharps or flats the songs you're looking to purchase appear to own. A song that uses too many of the black keys is harder to play if you are first starting out. Also, for whatever reason, tons of folks have difficulty playing sharp keys rather than flat ones.
You'll discover the chords easier to play when they are not complicated and are rather regular melodies. Check to learn if there are chords of four to five notes sorted on both the right and left hands. You can learn these if you desire to, but be geared up to work a tiny bit. A portable digital keyboard, such as the Casio CDP 100, can be a fine compliment to your musical development because you can bring it anywhere and thus perform anytime. If you desire to reexamine or write your piano session to a computer, use a usb to midi cable.
Look for tricky rhythms in the song. You possibly could discover various dotted notes or notes with numerous values put together creating measures. As these can be extra rough to overcome, there is no timetable for you to get these down. You can tap out the cadency of the music before you start playing so you'll know it. For some faster results, be on the watch for simpler and move even values of notes.
An alternative option exists for buying music in a shop other than just studying songbooks and music sheets. Some stores can produce copies of music using a special PC. You select the music you like from a listing. If you can remember just a couple lyrics of the music, you can probably still come across it if the software's search engine is adequate.
When you make your selection, you'll be able to glance at the music. You can glance at the music from start to end, but you cannot copy it until you concur to buy it. For every copy of the composer's piece that is bought, he or she receives a royalty, which protects them. You ought to anticipate the copies to be high caliber, and on excellent paper.
You can likewise buy sheet music on-line. You most likely won't be able to truly look at much of the music before buying on-line. A small sample of the music is all you're generally going to obtain to determine if you like it.
It's very easy for someone to merely make a "copy" of the music without paying, which is why you'll simply be shown a minor percentage. Stores will transfer you your songs via e-mail or permit you to download them whenever your payment is done.
However you locate your music, be sure that you acquire the music you like and you will be able to perform in the near future. You can purchase all the music you want later on when you've got the piano down pat and are playing on a piano such as the Yamaha P95 keyboard, but until that date, just buy what you can play right now. Just get music and books that you're set to perform right away.

Jazz Music Theory Guitar

What should I learn first to play jazz guitar?
So I've been playing guitar for a few years, mainly blues and rock.
I know the different modes, how basic chords are built, and basic music theory (circle of 5ths, tritone substitution, etc.).
I've also been practicing improvising over standard jazz songs like Autumn Leaves and Blue Bossa.
However, I feel like my jazz studies are very disorganized and inefficient.
My question is, as a generally beginner jazz guitarist, should I concentrate more on learning to solo or comp first.
I feel like there is much less of an emphasis in "online jazz lessons" about comping compared to learning arpeggios and scales for soloing, but I'm sure it is as important if not more so than soloing.
My immediate plan is to re-learn different voicings over the neck, but I would like to have some advice on where to go after that.
Also, if there are any suggested songs to learn, please let me know.
Thanks!
I think Devon gave a very nice, detailed answer. The one thing I would add is that you need to study with a good teacher who is a real jazz player. That teacher will show you how things fit together, how to play authentically in a particular style, and what is commonly expected when playing specific tunes that are considered standard reperetoire. For example, some songs usually begin by playing the last eight bars as an intro (Four by Miles Davis), others play the A section as single-time feel and the bridge as double-time feel (Song for My Father by Horace Silver), and still others play latin on the A section and swing on the B section (A Night In Tunisia by Dizzy Gillespie) ... little things like that, not always in the Real Book, lend important polish and authenticity to your playing. Plus, a good teacher makes the task of learning to play this sophisticated music less daunting and more fun. I've been blessed with several teachers that inspired me to no end, made me want to work as hard as I could to play like they did, gave me great tips and told me funny stories too...
Tip: to organize your studies, first learn all of your chords and arpeggios as 7th chords, then learn them as 9th chords. Then 11th and 13th, then altered dominants (b9, #9, b5, +5 and so on). 11ths and 13ths are dominant chords, even minor 11ths actually act like dom 7ths, so add those voicings to your vocabulary as substitutes for dom7 chords. As you learn each kind of chord, go back over songs you already know, substituting the new versions of the chords that you just learned. For example, play Autumn Leaves with all the chords as 7ths, pretty much like it is in the Real Book. Then see what it sounds like when you use 9ths instead of 7ths. Mix and match to find things you like the sound of. Then start using 13ths in place of the dom 7ths. For example, you could play a wide variety of variations on just the opening chords to Autumn Leaves:
A-7 D7 G∆ C∆
A-9 D9 G∆9 C∆9
A-11 D13 G13 C∆9
AØ D7b9 G7b13 C7#9 // the Eb is common to every chord
and don't forget the TT subs ![]()
A-7 Ab13 G13 C∆
A-7 D9 Db7#9 C∆
heres are two minor 11ths acting like dominants and Ab7#11 acting as a TT sub passing chord to the G:
A-11 Ab7#11 G-11 C∆
As you can see, the possibilities are nearly endless, even if all you do is add extensions (7, 9, 11, 13) and do TT subs.
Mainly, take it slow, listen for what sounds good, and keep it fun. Don't try to learn everything overnight. Good luck.
