One music and dance art form that symbolized the Spanish culture is the Flamenco; in fact, numerous people have a misconception that it is Spain’s national dance. Since Flamenco is being practiced by the poor, upper class society and historians put in little time in recording and studying it, thus very little written records can be read about it. Unfortunately, most of the people from the Andalusian regions were of persecuted lineages, they were also mostly lacking in literacy so they had no way of jotting down their own cultural beliefs for posterity; most of the history of Flamenco has been lost and greatly altered because it had only been passed on through oral tradition.

Until today, much of the history of the Flamenco is still unclear. However, one face is clear which is that Flamenco has shaped dance cultures worldwide.
