The following information describes the rich history behind electronica music and how it has influenced artists across the globe.

Different Genres

Electronica includes a wide variety of different genres used for many different reasons. It can be used for foreground music, for dance clubs, and for background ambiance. Genres like techno, dubstep, drum and bass, downtempo, and ambient are all considered to fall under the category of this particular genre. It was originally created in the late 1970s but did not come to prominence until being featured in alternative and underground dance clubs in the mid 1990s.

Crossover Artists

This type of music has influenced a wide variety of crossover recordings. Crossover is a term used to describe artists that switch over from one particular genre to another. Some good examples of this are when artists will fuse two or more genres to create their own unique works. Electronic sounds started to form the basis on which popular songs were created, and became a staple of pop and rock songs in the mid 1980s.

Underground Electronic Music

The term electronica first appeared to describe more underground genres with a certain electronic aesthetic. Since then, however, it has been used to describe the electronic scene or any songs that use electronic synthesizers or sounds. Many artists today use many techniques found in this genre.

This genre of sound has created many fans across the globe. Fans who identify with this community are usually also part of the electronic dance culture. This style of dance originated from Spain and its acid house styles, along with Indian Psychedelic dance parties. These parties, known as raves, have become a staple within the digital dance movement.

Developments In Technology

This style was created around the recent developments in sound technology. It uses a variety of tools, such as electronic instruments, synthesizers, drum machines, sequencers, and digital audio workstations. As technology developed, it got easier and easier for artists to begin producing their own forms of electronic songs in their own studios. Around the same time, people began experimenting with computers to record samples and loops as ways to digitally construct new kinds of songs.

New York's Electronic Scene

Around the late nineteen nineties, people began to flock to New York City, as it became the premiere destination for electronic artists. Producers and DJs from many different places began to come and play their work for nightclubs and raves. Artists from Brazil, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and France would inevitably find themselves in New York to try and be a part of the electronic dance community.

As you can tell, Electronica Music has a very rich history. Though it has been around for a little while now, it is still in the beginning stages of development. As computers become stronger and faster, artists will have the ability to create new forms of sound currently unavailable to us. People are constantly changing and watching the Dubstep genre grow more and more.
